We have a proven track record of delivering social value benefits in local communities. Local employment, skills development and inclusion are all central to our purpose. As an example, CERCULA, an independent sustainability consultant, calculated a social ROI of £3.19 for every £1 spent on our Approved Contractors projects.
We’re delivering high quality housing and creating genuine social value in local communities across the country
We’re committed to helping people build a future for themselves. With the skills crisis in construction, we urgently need to bring new people into the industry who have no previous experience in construction. At Beattie, we’re training the next generation to build energy efficient, sustainable housing to Passivhaus standards.
Local employment
Housing is known to be a key determinant of social health and wellbeing. A lack of housing, or a high proportion of poor quality housing, in a community can have a profound impact on physical and mental health. That’s why we’re committed to building a legacy of high quality, energy efficient, sustainable homes for future generations. High quality housing stock, that is built to last, will help to prevent homelessness and fuel poverty.
Investment in housing builds stronger local communities and economies. We manufacture locally through our established Approved Contractors and recruit site trades locally too. This means less transport time to site, further reducing our carbon footprint. Our build system reduces heating bills by up to 100%, so we’re tackling fuel poverty head on, providing fuel security for the future, and improving the nation’s health and wellbeing.
“
Beattie not only deliver high quality Passivhaus homes, they also actively engage with local communities to bring vital skills and education in construction. These values run parallel to our own and, having outlined our housing objectives, it was clear that a factory would be hugely effective in helping us to achieve them
Training and employment opportunities for young people and new industry entrants via our in-house Training Academy
Working with Colleges and Universities to give students hands-on experience on-site and in our factory (we’ve provided placements to City College Norwich, Great Yarmouth College, Coventry City College and University of East Anglia)
We’re continuing to develop our accredited apprenticeship programme.
Inclusion & Diversity
We work very closely with social enterprise and training organisations to target disadvantaged groups. We worked with New Meaning & The Jericho Foundation to provide placements for NEET young people and survivors of modern slavery.
We work with prisons to give inmates the opportunity to manufacture components and attend site through day release. Through our Approved Contractor partnership with Newydd Housing Association, we supported Parc Prison’s rehabilitation programme, resulting in 5 full-time employment positions on release.
